Membership

Membership as a whole is a concern. This is not a problem unique to Dapto Seniors, CPSA membership as a whole is falling, people do not seem to join groups in general, everything happens on line.

In fact at the last branch meeting this was discussed in some detail, as the meeting was advised we used to advertise before every meeting on the ABC, VoxFM, one of the TV channels (7 or 9 can't remember which one), The Advertiser, Senior News as well as having a stall at various public activities advertising ourselves. We never received a single member from any of these sources even though this was done for many years.

We still have our web page which does occasionally attract emails, we are listed with the council, advertise our presence on their TV screens and our brochure is readily available at the Ribbonwood Centre.

I believe the only way to attract new members is word of mouth, speaking to people you know to attract new members recommending branch activities to them.  If you have any new ideas be sure to let us know.

Annual General Meeting

CPSA Dapto Seniors will hold its AGM on 27th August 2026 at 10.30am. All positions will be declared vacant and a new committee for the next 12 months will be elected.

Head Office News - January 2026

In January the branch received a copy of Head Office News, the first for a considerable time.

In days past we used to receive copies of Head Office news on a regular basis and they were posted on our notice board outside the hall. Unfortunately our noticeboard was replaced by the large council TV screen and for some reason the Head Office News' ceased to circulate.

However the revival of Head Office News aroused much interest and copies have been circulated to the various weekly groups for all to read.

Head office has given permission to post a copy on our web site so for those who haven't read a copy here it is:

 Head Office News January 2026

Please let me know if you have problems when clicking on this link.

Dapto's Motions

On Page 5 of the Head Office News are the motions considered at annual conference. Dapto Branch proposed  Motions 2, 20 and 26. The first two passed the final one was defeated.

Membership Fees

Just a reminder for all members.  Dapto Branch membership runs from January to December so all membership fees are due now. Please ensure your fees are paid.

2025 CPSA Annual Conference

This year your delegates and observers attended the conference and AGM via Zoom which was a very satisfactory way of doing things. Though, if the truth be known, we missed the Tuesday night get together at the pub.

Two of the branches three motions were accepted.

  •  The first regarding making self managed My Aged Care easier.
  • The second about the retention of cheques.

Both passed easily.

Our third policy motion regarding returning to the status quo where 19% of the membership fee was retained in the local area was defeated.  (Not unexpected it has to be said)

However we are also pleased to report that the proposal to raise the annual membership fee to $18 was also defeated.

Our President will give a full report at the next meeting on the 13th November.

See you there.

 Dapto Seniors Return

Just a reminder that annual fees are now due, please fill in the envelope with your full details as we are checking that the club records are accurate. To make life easier for our Membership Co-ordinator please enclose the right money in the envelope. It is much appreciated.

Meeting Dates

There are two meetings each month - on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 10.30am in Heininger Hall - come early for a cup of tea, a biscuit and to buy your raffle ticket (big prizes).

Occasionally that will mean that there is a gap of three weeks between the last meeting of a month and the first meeting of the next. This only occurs a few times each year. For example our next meeting is on the 13th February.

All  the meeting dates are available in a leaflet at the sign in desk at the meeting or the "Club Activities" page.

Looking forward to seeing all members at a meeting very soon.

Driving Miss Daisy

At a recent meeting a member reported on the good experience they had with "Driving Miss Daisy" Dapto.

2024 CPSA Annual Conference

October 2024

Dapto Seniors sent one delegate to the two day CPSA Annual Conference this year. This is a brief report of the activities at that conference:

Approximately 17 people attended each day including staff and the CPSA Executive. Up to five people attended via video link including CPSA President and Vice President.

Meeting was run by the Senior Vice President and Secretary.

 Policy

Policy motions included:

  • Cash to be retained
  • Digital inclusion
  • Driver Testing
  • Electricity Transmission be returned to public ownership
  • Bank closures
  • Income security
  • Job seeker payments

 Membership:

As with the Dapto Branch, CPSA Membership has slowly declined but now comprises:

  • 1712 individuals
  • 50 branches
  • 12 Affiliate organisations

Giving a total Association Membership of 20965.

Dapto Seniors appeared to be one of the biggest branches attending the conference.

Financial

Assets increased in last financial year due to Covid payments and branch closures, plus the association made a small surplus.

Talks

One very interesting talk on bank branch closures by Associate Professor from Wollongong Uni.

There were other talks on Volunteering, Seniors Legal Rights and Dentistry.

  Questions without Notice

At the end of the conference this session your delegate asked that the executive considered two policy motions over coming year:

  1. That the executive considers reducing amount paid by branches to Head Office to 80% of fee because no payment is now made to area councils. It would only amount to a $3000 drop in revenue but would make a difference to branches. (approx a loss of 0.4%)
  2. That policy include self-managing the My Aged Care package be made easier.

That was the Annual Conference done and dusted for another year.

A Change for 2024

At a recent meeting a slight change was made to our meeting dates for 2024.

As you probably know our meetings currently occur every fortnight, this poses problems for some members who have groups that meet, for example, on the first Thursday of the month. At certain times of the year they cannot attend meetings because our meetings clash with theirs.

It used to be a thing that our meetings coincided with "Pension Day" but these days pensions are paid out on just about every day of the fortnight so that term has lost its meaning. It was also difficult to know when the first or last meeting of the year would occur.

A change was proposed by the committee and ratified by the members that from 2024 meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. The first meeting of the year will always be the 4th meeting in January and the last will be held on the 2nd Thursday in December. It will mean that there will be a couple of less meetings each year because three meetings in a month can never occur - for example this occurred in August with meetings on the 3rd, 17th and 31st of the month.

As stated this will commence in 2024 until then meetings will continue every fortnight for the rest of this year.

Our next meeting is on the 31st August at 10.30am.

See you there...

Saturday, 22 July 2023

Next Meeting - 3rd August 2023

The next meeting is on the 3rd August 2023 please try to attend.

Come early because that is when you get to meet other members, buy a raffle ticket, check out the goods for sale on the trade table and join everyone for a cup of tea and a biscuit.

The actual meeting only usually lasts for about half an hour, the rest of the morning is spent socialising.

The AGM

The AGM was held at our last meeting - only 25 members attended out of a total membership of nearly 120. This is very disappointing.

Were it not for a couple of volunteers who put their hand up at the very last minute to take on essential roles in the running of your club the branch came perilously close to closing down.

If there is no committee, there is no club, if there is no club there are no free rooms provided for your hobby or interests and there is no public liability insurance for your protection.

Please make the effort to attend our regular meetings, no one pretends that these meetings are exciting but they are essential for the continued well being of the branch. There are only a couple each month.

You could win up to $60 in the raffle so it is worth your while attending.

Monday, 3 July 2023
