Bus Trips

The trip to Parklea and Flemington Markets is now full and leaves at 7.30am on Sunday 3rd March.

Unfortunately due to Easter Monday falling on our bus day there will be no bus trip in April. Therefore the next trip will be on the 6th May so keep an eye out for details at the end of March.

Walking Group

The next walk is from Neutral Bay to Cremorne Point (or perhaps Old Cremorne) on the 8th March. Look out for more details next week but, as usual, we will meet at Dapto Railway Station at 7.40am in the waiting room.

Picnic

The club's annual picnic was also announced at the meeting and is being held on the 4th April at the Motor Museum. Names of those interested in attending are being taken, see Maureen at the next meeting.

Previous picnics have been great fun so do join us, the site is good rain or shine.

Stroke Foundation Talk

At the beginning of our 9th May meeting there will be a short talk about strokes, how to recognise the symptoms and what to do. After the presentation members will be able to ask questions of the expert speaker

Make a note in your diary.

Finally...

New members are always welcome. Do come along to a meeting or an activity without any obligation to see if they are for you. Please recommend us to your friends and relatives. Membership is still only $12 a year. Why not join us?

Bus Trips

The next bus trip is to Parklea and Flemington markets on Sunday 3rd March. There are a few seats left so get to the meeting early before they are all snapped up. A ticket is only $10pp.

The February bus trip to Cobbitty Winery and The Campbelltown Art Centre was a great success with some members taking part in a filmed Art Event while others contented themselves with admiring the works on display and walking round the Japanese Garden and outdoor sculpture exhibition, it was great fun. Lunch was taken next door at the Campbelltown Catholic Club - a great favourite with the bus trip participants.

Walking Group

Due to the inclement weather the walk to Berry Island was abandoned and the walking group instead visited the Museum of Sydney which had a couple of special exhibitions; one about the artist Margaret Olley and the other the old Sydney Stadium.

The visit commenced with a terrific half hour guided tour of the Museum by an enthusiastic member of the staff after which we were able to browse at our own pace. Even at lunch time when the group left they had not seen everything so members will be going back individually to see the rest of what is a fascinating museum - well worth a visit.

The Next Walk - 22nd February 2013

Visit Berry Island Reserve

A walk we have not done before! We attempted it last year but it was after heavy rain and the path was far too waterlogged to be safely attempted. If it is too wet on the day then we will try another walk instead.

The total distance of this walk is about 3km and undoubtedly involves a hill from the waterfront to Waverton Station but we will take that part very easy.

As usual the group will meet in the Dapto Railway Station waiting room at about 7.40am to catch the 7.55am Sydney train. If you are late we will be in the second carriage. Please join us, you will be made very welcome.

Bus Trips

The bus went to Campbelltown Arts Centre Monday 4th February. We looked at the Japanese garden and the sculpture garden while a few members took park in an Art 'Event'. After a meal at the Campbelltown Catholic Club the bus visited Cobbitty Winery for members to stock up on their favourite tipple before bringing us all home. It was a great day out.

The March bus trip is to two of the Sydney Markets and no doubt tickets will sell out quickly so get to the meeting early to be sure of a place. Remember the market trips are on a Sunday not the first Monday of the month

See you at the meeting...

The Next Walk - 8th Feb 2013

Martin Place to NSW Art Gallery

The next walk is in Sydney, the group will catch the train to Martin Place Railway Station and walk down to Circular Quay and the Opera House.

The group will continue around the harbour on the edge of the Botanic Garden to Mrs Macquaries Chair then continue on with views of the Garden Island navy base across the water until the Art Gallery of NSW. Hopefully everybody will make a short visit to the Art Gallery before having their own lunch in The Domain.

After lunch by cutting through the Sydney Eye Hospital it is only a short distance to Martin Place Railway Station and the train home.

As usual the group will meet in the waiting room at Dapto Station at about 7.40am to catch the 7.55am Sydney train. If you are late look in the second carriage. See you there?

Note: this map still shows lunch at Circular Quay, this is incorrect, as stated above we are taking a packed lunch to have in the Domain but a stop for coffee will be made probably in Martin Place or Circular Quay.

Some happy members meet Father Christmas at our Christmas Lunch last December.

Sunday, 16 December 2012

Oh! What Fun We Had...

Christmas Lunch 2012

Once again the club celebrated Christmas in fine style. Over 110 members attended the annual Christmas Lunch at Dapto Leagues Club.

When they arrived members were handed a chocolate Father Christmas courtesy of our President and they put their ticket in the barrel for the monster raffle. All the tables were beautifully trimmed with decorations kindly supplied by the Club.

While members settled into their places there was plenty of time for talk as they reflected on the club's successful 50th Anniversary Year and the room buzzed with chatter until the girls started to serve the Christmas meal. It was a choice of roast chicken or loin of pork followed by a desert of trifle or Pavlova, now the room was almost silent as members enjoyed their feast.

A New Life Member

Following the meal there was a short presentation of Branch Life Membership to one of our past presidents, a man who had served in that role for 5 years. He joined CPSA Dapto Seniors in 1991 and had devoted much time and effort in the service of our club. A well deserved award.

A Generous Gift

Following this short ceremony the leader/organiser of the popular craft group delighted the company by presenting the club with a cheque for $500 which they had collected from the sale of the beautiful articles they had made during the year. Our President gratefully accepted this generous gift from our lovely ladies.

Raffle!

Now it was time for our raffle, in fact, two raffles; first the craft group drew the winners of the wonderful quilts they had made. Then it was time for the main event; this year there were so many prizes just about everybody went home with a gift. A big thank you to all the people who donated prizes.

A Very Special Visitor

Guess who called in during the raffle? It was Father Christmas! Not only did he wander round dispensing Christmas cheer he also stayed on for members to have their photograph taken with Santa as a happy way of remembering the final club event for 2012.

At the end of proceedings people seemed almost reluctant to go home but never fear, next year there will be more lunches and lots more fun. See you then...

Remember... our next meeting and AGM is on the 17th January 2013.
Usual time - usual place.
